TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn Interconnect Technology said Tuesday it has started construction on an EV-charger plant in Saudi Arabia, targeting production by the fourth quarter of next year.
The Foxconn subsidiary said its joint venture Smart Mobility broke ground on the new facility at the King Salman Energy Park in Dammam on Monday, per CNA. The facility is being built with Saudi partner Saleh Suleiman Alrajhi and Sons.
FIT said the 9,490-square-meter plant is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2026. It aims to begin EV-charger production in the fourth quarter of next year after completing the park’s certification process.
FIT Chair Lu Sung-ching (盧松青) said the Saudi plant gives the company a major foothold in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He said the factory will produce a range of EV charger hardware that has been field-tested in Saudi Arabia for more than six months.
Smart Mobility CEO Prince Fahad N. Al Saud said EVs are becoming core computing platforms for automotive upgrades in the AI era. He said Saudi Arabia intends to lead in AI and smart-city development, with charging networks forming part of the country’s critical energy infrastructure.
Smart Mobility said three charger models have secured Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization certification. It expects its charger management system to enter commercial use in the first half of 2026.
