TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan City Government has completed the installation of EV charging infrastructure at seven public parking lots in scenic areas, with all stations fully operational and collecting fees.
The city government said the scenic areas with the new charging stations include Hutoushan Environmental Park, Xiao Wulai Scenic Area, and Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area. The Lalashan station stands out as the highest-altitude fast-charging station in northern Taiwan, per CNA.
Each station features eight 180 kW fast-charging ports and six 11 kW slow-charging ports. The city government hopes the initiative will help improve EV range and promote low-carbon tourism in the city.
The city government noted that the charging ports are compatible with most EV brands on the market. The charging equipment has passed safety and electricity inspections and includes a one-touch power-off safety feature.
Far EasTone Telecommunications built these charging stations. Payment can be made via mobile payment or credit card. The stations also feature a mobile app that allows users to locate charging points while providing real-time monitoring and data collection through integrated backend systems.
As of June, Taiwan has approximately 3,512 charging stations with around 11,864 charging ports, marking a 40% increase compared to last year. Taichung leads in the number of stations, followed by Greater Taipei and Kaohsiung. Additionally, there are about 108,500 EVs nationwide.
To boost EV sales, the government has extended its exemption of the commodity tax and license tax for EVs and electric scooters through 2030. It also aims for all new scooters to be electric by 2035 and all new cars by 2040. Additionally, the government plans to electrify all city buses by 2030, offering subsidies for vehicle purchases and supporting local component manufacturing to reduce costs.
