TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan and the Czech Republic concluded a NT$7.4 billion (US$236.31 million) deal to provide Sub-Saharan Africa with modern healthcare technology, reports said Thursday.
Taiwan’s Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry signed a strategic partnership with the Czech Health Technology Institute on the opening day of Healthcare Expo Taiwan, per CNA. The two institutes started cooperating in 2023, providing Taiwan’s health technology sector products to Eastern Europe.
The new agreement targeting Africa would help raise the profile of Taiwan’s health tech industry even more, according to institute Chair Wong Chi-huey (翁啟惠). The deal would assist Taiwan businesses in strengthening their appeal on the international market, he added.
African countries would benefit from the agreement by acquiring high-quality equipment, strengthening their basic healthcare and the care for women and children, the institute said. The deal covers 20 types of equipment, from breathing apparatus for emergency wards to fetal monitors.
