TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei’s Department of Education on Wednesday said three new gender-equality board games have been produced, with 800 sets distributed to schools across the city.
The games are part of a decade-long effort to promote gender equality in early childhood education. The initiative uses curriculum development, innovative lesson plans, and demonstration classes as its foundation, according to CNA.
This year, both public and private kindergartens and elementary schools received a full set of all three games.
The first game presents everyday scenarios through cards, such as “someone is pulling my clothes and I do not like it.” Children learn to express their feelings, leave uncomfortable situations, and seek help from a trusted adult.
The second game combines collection tasks with lessons on insect characteristics. Through cooperative tasks and question-and-answer activities, children learn to respect differences and understand that their interests and abilities are not defined by gender.
The third game introduces 16 Taiwanese figures and their diverse careers and life stories. These real-life examples challenge gender stereotypes and encourage children to appreciate their own traits and those of others.
