TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The TPP said on Wednesday it has picked former legislator Chen Wan-hui (陳琬惠) to run for Yilan County magistrate.
TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) said Chen has longstanding ties to Yilan and continued serving locally even after leaving the legislature, per CNA. He pledged full party backing for her campaign.
Chen said that Yilan voters value results over party labels. She outlined three priorities: promoting low-pollution industries, advancing transit-oriented development, and expanding services for seniors and children.
Asked whether naming a candidate sets a timetable for the KMT–TPP coalition, Huang said he had expected attempts to stir division and instructed TPP Secretary-General Chou Yu-hsiu (周榆修) to notify KMT Deputy Secretary-General Lee Che-hua (李哲華) of the decision, per Liberty Times. Communication with the KMT has been smooth, he said.
Huang said he told KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) that the TPP approaches cooperation with sincerity. He said both sides are acting in good faith and that imposing a deadline is unnecessary.
The TPP also announced the third wave of nomination districts for the 2026 municipal and county councilor races, covering Xinzhuang in New Taipei, and Xitun and Taiping in Taichung.
