TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Travelers preparing to board a flight at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 2 will see a collection of award-winning human rights posters, reports said Wednesday.
The event marked the run-up to World Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, the National Human Rights Commission said. The theme of the poster is, “Formosa, Where Human Rights Take Flight,” while the original Mandarin title means, “The Gateway: Know Taiwan, See Human Rights.”
The location at the airport is intended to tell passengers from any country heading to any destination that they should take an impression of human rights in Taiwan to the world, per CNA. The exhibition will be open until Jan. 2.
At Wednesday’s opening ceremony, Control Yuan Vice President Lee Hung-chun (李鴻鈞) described human rights as the reason why, despite its difficult international position, Taiwan could receive help from democracies. Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) said that in the past, the country’s symbols were Alishan and Sun Moon Lake, but today they are freedom, democracy, and human rights.
The award-winning posters cover a range of subjects, from gender equality to the victims of domestic violence and sexism, the National Human Rights Commission said.
