TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan signed a document at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London Tuesday to provide aid to Sub-Saharan Africa.
The letter of intent signaled Taiwan’s willingness to support the development of digital technology, small and medium enterprises, and green innovation in the region. The accord was another example of “Taiwan can help,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Wednesday.
The signatories were Taiwan’s envoy to the UK Vincent Yao (姚金祥) and the bank’s Vice President for Policy and Partnerships Mark Bowman. During the round of talks in London, the two sides discussed the achievements of past cooperation and prospects.
The country’s development of information and communication technology, fintrade, cybersecurity, sustainable infrastructure, and smart transportation could help the bank with its work overseas, officials said.
Taiwan is the seventh largest donor to the bank and a prominent cooperation partner. In 2006, both parties launched the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, which went on to assist with more than 400 projects led by the bank.
