TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Chiayi University will host a chicken cooking competition on Dec. 10 at its Lantan campus, with the public invited to try the dishes for free and support domestic poultry farmers.
CNA reported Monday that the event will bring in student cooking teams from around Taiwan and several well-known chicken vendors as well as other food companies. National Chiayi University said visitors can check out 17 teams showing off dishes that mix traditional methods with new twists.
According to the university, judges will pick the winners before letting the public taste the dishes at 3 p.m. It said the goal is to help people learn more about Taiwan’s domestic poultry farming and support it.
The university also said event staff will set up a brand market with 10 companies offering chicken products and egg-based items. It noted that many brands will hand out samples so visitors can learn how chickens go from farm to table.
Chen Shiang-liang (陳祥良), an assistant professor from National Chiayi University’s Animal Science Department, said the contest is an exchange platform for cooking, farming and food culture. Chen said the mix of creative dishes and corporate support should help domestic poultry reach more consumers.
The university said the event will also give out 100 limited gift sets to visitors who fill out a survey. It encouraged the public to stop by, try the food, and take part in the activities.
