TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chunghwa Post will resume regular mail service from Taiwan to the US starting Dec. 1.
As a result of US tariff policies, the post office suspended shipping services to the US earlier this year. After consulting with the US Postal Service, Chunghwa Post announced this week that it will resume registered mail services to the US and international shipments going through Hawaii, per CNA.
The post office initially suspended services for express mail packages, parcels, ePackets, registered small packages and ordinary small packages in August after the Trump administration introduced a raft of tariffs. Chunghwa Post resumed limited airmail services for small parcels in October.
From December, Chunghwa Post will begin accepting registered letters, documents, printed materials, small parcels and packages headed for the US, and international mail being shipped through Hawaii. However, current regulations stipulate that packages shipped to the US must meet the criteria of “non-commercial gifts valued at NT$3,140 (US$100) or less,” or “books,” per CNA.
Those posting mail to the US should also be aware that online international delivery forms must be completed and submitted through the Chunghwa Post website’s “EZpost” registration platform. Paper delivery labels will no longer be accepted as the post office continues to modernize services.
