TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Travelers will be allowed to purchase nine train tickets per day from January, reports said Saturday.
Current Taiwan Railway Corporation rules limit the number of tickets sold. The increase has not been officially confirmed yet, per CNA.
At present, each person, based on ID or passport number, can only book six tickets per day. The restriction also applies to voice reservation systems and to bookings at convenience stores.
In addition to one-way tickets, travelers can also book up to six tickets for the return journey. Groups of at least 10 travelers can buy group tickets between three months and 35 days before their journey.
However, groups counting fewer than 10 members needed to book tickets as separate individuals. As a result, they were unable to reserve adjacent seats. The change planned for January addressed the problem, the report said.
Taiwan Rail implemented its first fare hikes in 30 years in June. The new measures were designed to meet demands from travelers and to make train travel easier and more popular.
