TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Foreign ministry thanked Thailand and Vietnam on Friday for showing concern over peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The ministry said both governments underscored the importance of maintaining the status quo, per CNA. Thailand’s foreign ministry said strait stability is vital to ASEAN and to Thailand’s security interests. It urged all parties to act cautiously as tensions rise.
Vietnam’s foreign ministry also called for peace in the Taiwan Strait essential for regional and global development. It said all sides should contribute constructively to maintaining stability.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry said the statements show that, beyond China’s recent high-pressure tactics against Japan, stability in the Taiwan Strait has become a significant issue for Indo-Pacific security.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said the concern reflects a shared international consensus. He said Taiwan will work with Southeast Asia and like-minded partners to safeguard regional peace and prosperity.
