TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — German tech company Trumpf on Friday opened a new plasma power technology center in Taoyuan, aiming to support Asia’s chip supply chain.
The company said the facility will shorten service times and extend equipment lifespan, per CNA. The move marks the firm’s second major investment in Taiwan, per Commonwealth Magazine.
The new center will focus on plasma power system analysis, repair, and calibration. It will also support customers in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
The company explained that its semiconductor technologies include extreme ultraviolet laser systems and advanced plasma. These systems are used in next-generation chipmaking, particularly for plasma needed to etch microscopic structures on wafers.
In 2023, Trumpf invested NT$200 million (US$6.37 million) for an extreme ultraviolet center in Tainan. The company operates five sites in Taiwan, including Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, and two in Taoyuan.
