TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The homes of former TSMC Senior Vice President Lo Wei-jen (羅唯仁) were raided as part of an investigation into alleged theft of trade secrets, prosecutors confirmed Thursday.
Investigators said they seized computers, USB drives, and other materials from Lo, who worked for more than two decades at TSMC before joining Intel in October, according to Reuters. The court also authorized the seizure of Lo’s shares and real estate.
TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a key supplier to companies like Nvidia, had previously filed a lawsuit accusing Lo of leaking trade secrets to Intel. The company reportedly said there is a high likelihood that he disclosed confidential information related to TSMC’s advanced chip manufacturing technologies.
Intel denied the allegations, saying it “has no reason to believe there is any merit to the allegations involving Mr. Lo.” The US chipmaker instead praised Lo’s integrity and added that movement between companies was normal and healthy.
Lo helped develop TSMC’s cutting-edge 5 nm, 3 nm, and 2 nm chip production technologies.
