TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Intel on Thursday denied TSMC’s allegations that former Senior Vice President Lo Wei-jen (羅唯仁) leaked trade secrets, Reuters reported.
The US chipmaker said in a statement that it has “no reason to believe” the allegations involving Lo are valid. It added that Lo has been welcomed back to the company and is widely respected in the industry for his integrity, leadership, and technical expertise.
Intel said it enforces strict internal controls that ban the use or transfer of third-party confidential information. “We take these commitments seriously,” the company said, calling employee movement between chipmakers a normal and healthy part of the sector.
TSMC announced Tuesday that it had filed an interim injunction against Lo in the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court. The company said it believes there is a high risk that Lo could disclose or transfer its trade secrets to Intel.
Lo worked at Intel for 18 years before joining TSMC in 2004. In October, he returned to Intel as executive vice president.
Lo did not respond to a request for comment. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said it will work with authorities to determine if the National Security Act was breached.
