TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Tuesday that the government will offer weekday and birthday accommodation subsidies as part of incentives to boost domestic travel.
During a Legislative Yuan session, Cho said that post-pandemic domestic tourism lags behind regional rivals because accommodations are often expensive or hard to book on weekends, per Liberty Times. To address this, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications will launch five major domestic travel incentives in March, with a total budget of NT$1.6 billion (US$51 million).
The incentives include a birthday accommodation discount, under which 1,000 Taiwanese residents will be randomly selected each month to receive NT$1,200 in birthday accommodation credit. A weekday accommodation discount will provide vouchers for stays Sunday through Thursday, allowing each person to claim up to two nights, with NT$800 off the first night and NT$1,200 off the second consecutive night.
A theme park stay program allows travelers to enjoy free admission to one of 26 nationwide theme parks the day after their stay from Monday to Thursday, excluding national holidays, upon presenting a valid lodging receipt. A corporate domestic travel program enables travel agencies organizing trips for 30 or more employees to offer itineraries of at least two days and one night, with public holidays not exceeding one day.
Each travel agency may apply for marketing subsidies for up to 10 corporate trips at NT$10,000 per group. Each company may receive an NT$20,000 subsidy for one corporate trip.
For Taiwanese residents, Taiwan PASS weekday domestic travel discounts will offer packages from Sunday to Thursday at 40% off, priced at NT$1,000 each, or weekday packages with an additional NT$1,500 per-room, per-night accommodation credit, with both options limited to 20,000 packages.
