TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China Airlines will spend NT$246 billion (US$7.85 billion) to buy 10 passenger aircraft and six cargo planes, reports said Wednesday.
The board of Taiwan’s largest carrier approved proposals for a package of deals including the purchase of planes from both Boeing and Airbus. The company was also planning to sell other aircraft and to buy engines, per CNA.
China Airlines will buy five A350-1000 airplanes from Airbus and five 777-9 passenger aircraft from Boeing. The cargo planes will be four 777-8F and two 777F from Boeing.
The buy list also features one XWB-97 engine from Rolls-Royce and three GE9X backup engines from GE Aerospace. The airline wants to put four Boeing 747-400F freighter planes up for sale, with the first two bringing in a total of NT$1.25 billion. Negotiations for the two others are still proceeding, the airline said.
A separate deal would see either the purchase of two more Boeing 777F freighter jets for a total of NT$27.45 billion, or the leasing of the planes for NT$14.66 billion.
