TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) led a delegation to Canada to attend the Halifax International Security Forum (HFX), which concluded on Sunday.
Chen was a panelist for a discussion titled “Artificial Advantages: China’s Intelligent Approach.” He also held talks and sideline meetings with lawmakers and other delegations, exchanging views on strengthening investment, supply chain cooperation, and democratic partnerships, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Representatives from multiple countries reaffirmed their continued support for Taiwan and their commitment to expanding cooperation with Taiwan across more sectors, MOFA said. In media interviews, Chen said Taiwan is committed to strengthening national defense and whole-of-society resilience to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The ministry said that Chen's participation at the forum reflects Taiwan's vital role in defending democracy and maintaining regional peace. MOFA pledged to continue strengthening Taiwan’s security cooperation with democracies worldwide and boosting the nation’s visibility and contributions on the international stage.
Taiwan has been invited to HFX every year since 2018, MOFA said. Last year, former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) delivered a keynote speech at the forum.
