TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army’s Dongyin Area Command conducted a live-fire exercise on Tuesday, simulating a series of enemy threats and maneuvers.
The exercise focused on force preservation and anti-landing operations, CNA reported. Troops fired artillery to suppress enemy movement and used their rifles and machine guns, along with other close-range defensive weapons, to create crossfire.
The command said the exercise aimed to sharpen commanders’ decision-making and test troop and firepower deployment.
Dongyin Area Commander Feng Shao-yi (馮少毅) said the command will continue to train for all types of combat situations. He said all personnel must understand their missions, become familiar with the battlefield environment, and strengthen countermeasures. Troops must also continue adopting new tools such as drones to bolster overall combat readiness, Feng added.
Earlier this month, the Army concluded the inaugural weeklong Lu Sheng exercise, a force-on-force drill between the Army’s 542nd Armored Brigade and 234th Mechanized Infantry Brigade. The exercise simulated defensive operations under multiple scenarios. Local temples, schools, and farms were used as training sites.
After the drills, the Army conducted a full evaluation and tactical review, compiling communications and operational data as a basis for improving future training.
