TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese scooter exports surged this year, with shipments to Australia skyrocketing 2,921% in the first nine months.
According to the Taiwan Vehicle Manufacturers Association, total scooter exports reached NT$4.9 billion (US$155.81 million) in the first nine months, down 3.13% from a year earlier, per Liberty Times. September shipments totaled NT$426 million, a 39.44% decline from the same month last year, per The Storm.
Japan remained the largest market, importing NT$1.12 billion worth of scooters, up 51.73% year-on-year and accounting for 22.8% of total exports. Spain ranked second at NT$867 million, up 243.96%, followed by Italy with NT$578 million, up 95.46%.
Israel was fourth, with scooter imports totaling NT$244 million, down 36.69%, while Australia rose sharply to NT$240 million, marking dramatic growth.
By volume, 17,300 scooters were shipped abroad in September, up 6.04% from last year. Cumulative exports for the first nine months reached 169,100 units, a 10.21% year-on-year increase.
The United Arab Emirates led by purchase volume with 46,600 units, up 51.55% from a year ago, per The Storm. Madagascar followed with 30,300 units, up 40.19%, while Japan bought 20,800 units, up 43.62%.
