TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan will turn off or reduce water supply for 39 hours starting 9 a.m. on Dec. 2 as engineers connect major pipeline segments to strengthen the city’s water system.
CNA reported Monday that the planned shutdown will run through midnight on Dec. 3 and will affect 18 districts across Tainan. A total of 321,919 households will be impacted, with 243,216 losing water completely and 78,703 experiencing low pressure.
According to Taiwan Water Corporation, the outage is needed so crews can connect a new pipeline from the Nanhua plant to the Fongde reservoir with an existing line from Zuozhen to Fongde. The upgrade is intended to improve Tainan’s long-term water stability and protect the system against shocks.
The utility said workers will also implement traffic controls around construction zones to keep the public safe. It added that heavy rain or a typhoon warning could delay the shutdown, and any updates will be announced.
Complete outages will affect Zuozhen, Danei, and Shanshang districts. Parts of Yongkang, Anping, East District, North District, West Central, Yujing, Nanhua, Xinhua, Guanmiao, Longci, Guiren, Rende, Shanhua, Xinshi, and other districts will also lose water depending on the neighborhood, per Taiwan Water Corporation.
Meanwhile, all of Anding District will see low water pressure, and several neighborhoods in Yongkang, Xinhua, Shanhua, and Xinshi will also face pressure drops. The agency said both outage and low-pressure areas will see normal supply only after work is completed.
The company warned that water may appear turbid when it first returns. It advised residents not to use it immediately and to wait until it clears.
