TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Post offices across Taiwan began in-person distribution of the government's NT$10,000 (US$318) cash handouts on Monday, per CNA.
Chunghwa Post said it has implemented crowd control measures, including additional service counters and staff, to manage the expected influx of people. An alternative-day system for in-person withdrawals will also be implemented this week, based on the last digit of an individual’s ID card or residence permit number.
People with IDs ending in odd numbers may withdraw on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while those with even-numbered final digits may withdraw on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The system does not apply to senior citizens aged 65 and older or people with disabilities, who will be prioritized at service counters.
According to Ministry of Finance data, as of noon Friday, 15.5 million people had already received the money, representing a withdrawal rate of 65.79%.
Chunghwa Post said more than 685,000 withdrawals had been made through its ATMs as of Friday morning. In-person withdrawals are now available at more than 1,200 post office branches nationwide.
It reminded the public to bring their National Health Insurance card, ID, or Alien Resident Certificate. For proxy collection, both the recipient and the proxy must provide the required documents.
Chunghwa Post has also prepared a special red envelope for people who collect the cash in person.
