TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn Chief Digital Officer Shih Che (史喆) said on Saturday that AI-enabled robotics applications are imminent and will become a cornerstone of the company’s future business.
Speaking at the company’s technology day, Shih said Foxconn is working with partners to build a smart manufacturing ecosystem, adding that robotics will be crucial to the group’s long-term strategy. He said the company is developing key AI robot modules as well as complete product solutions, per CNA.
Shih said robots have evolved from preprogrammed machines into intelligent, collaborative systems capable of perception, reasoning, and autonomous action. Their emerging characteristics include AI-driven capabilities and decision-making functions, he said.
Shih said AI robotics trends point to deeper hardware-software integration, platformization, and enhanced intelligence, making robots more flexible and adaptable. Applications extend across manufacturing, smart transportation, home care, commercial services, agriculture, construction, and healthcare. In each of these areas, he said, “AI-enabled robots are on the horizon.”
Shih said that industrial robots today are primarily used on production lines with fixed tasks and scenarios. As AI drives automation upgrades, he said, the sector will see “unprecedented growth potential.”
On humanoid robot development, Shih said the machines require massive computational resources and extensive imitation-learning data. Manufacturers are now conducting large-scale data collection to accelerate simulation training.
Looking ahead, Shih said that within five years, Foxconn aims to build intelligent assembly plants capable of autonomous learning and decision-making. The company is also working with partners to develop a high-standard robotics ecosystem to drive AI-powered transformation across its operations.
