TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Railway Corporation on Sunday warned the public against graffiti and vandalism after a train car in Keelung was spray-painted overnight.
Train No. 1108 at Qidu Station was discovered early Sunday with a large, colorful design on the side of car No. 4. Cleaning crews could not immediately remove the paint, so TRC replaced the car, delaying the start of service by five minutes, per UDN.
The case has been referred to railway police for investigation to identify those involved. TRC said it will seek compensation from the perpetrator for damages.
TRC reminded the public that vandalizing railway property violates Article 68 of the Railway Act. Offenders face prison terms of one to seven years and fines of up to NT$10 million (US$320,000) for damaging railway facilities.
People caught trespassing in restricted areas may be fined NT$10,000 (US$320) to NT$50,000 (US$1,600).
