TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Japanese city of Tateyama has launched a donation campaign to help its sister city of Suao that was recently hit by flooding during Tropical Storm Fung-wong, reports said Saturday.
The storm made landfall in Pingtung earlier this month before fading, but not without bringing torrential rain to several parts of Taiwan. Suao in Yilan experienced widespread flooding during the storm on Nov. 11, affecting 3,200 households.
Following a promise of help from its mayor, Tateyama in Chiba Prefecture positioned six donation boxes where residents can deposit money until Dec. 19, per CNA. The city had established sister ties with Suao just before the flooding.
The Chiba Prefecture newspaper Bonichi Shimbun featured the donation story on its front page Saturday, saying the donation boxes had been installed at key locations including the city government and tourism office.
