TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Amid the ongoing diplomatic row between Japan and China over Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae’s remarks, Taiwanese are being urged to visit Japan and buy Japanese products to show support.
To encourage more travel to Japan, Tigerair Taiwan is offering discounted fares on all flights to Japan for a limited time. The airline is also offering a promotional deal on flights to Okinawa and Ishigaki Island with fares starting at only NT$777 (US$24), UDN reported.
Japan is dealing with a sudden decline in Chinese tourists due to heightened tensions with Beijing. The rapid drop in ticket sales and accommodation bookings is resulting in cheaper prices as companies try to make up for the shortfall.
Tigerair Taiwan responded to the situation this week by announcing a campaign to “fill every room in Japan.” From 10 a.m. on Friday until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 23, travelers can get a 10% discount on all flights to Japan by using the discount code ITLOVEJP.
In order to promote TigerAir’s new routes to Kumamoto which will launch in December, the company is also offering select discounts on flights from Tainan and Kaohsiung. Return flights booked from Kumamoto to Tainan or Kaohsiung before Dec. 30 can receive a 40% discount by using the code ITFLYKMJ, per UDN.
