TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn on Friday announced two major US-focused initiatives, partnering with OpenAI on AI hardware and Intrinsic on AI-driven robotic factories.
Foxconn said its work with OpenAI will center on designing and manufacturing advanced AI infrastructure hardware in the US, per CNA. The company said this aims to reinforce the US supply chain and leadership in AI.
The preliminary framework gives OpenAI priority access to new hardware for evaluation, along with an option to buy future systems. Foxconn said the agreement includes no purchase commitments or financial obligations for either side.
The partnership covers three tracks, beginning with the design of multiple future generations of data-center hardware. Foxconn and OpenAI will develop AI data-center racks tailored for large-scale model training and deployment.
The second track focuses on strengthening the US AI supply chain through expanded sourcing of chips and components from US suppliers. Foxconn said it will also scale local testing, assembly, and rack manufacturing to build a more resilient domestic ecosystem.
A third component calls for US production of cabling, cooling, and power systems. Foxconn said these capabilities will support the expansion of high-performance computing.
Foxconn Chair Young Liu (劉揚偉) said the company is proud to back OpenAI’s mission to broaden access to advanced AI technologies. He added that Foxconn’s role as the world’s largest AI server maker positions it to help shape the next era of AI innovation.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called the effort a generational opportunity to reindustrialize the US. He said the partnership marks an early step toward ensuring that core technologies of the AI age can be built domestically for broad economic benefit.
Foxconn also announced a separate US joint venture with Intrinsic, Alphabet’s robotics unit, to develop AI-powered robotic factories. The companies plan to integrate AI and robotics across production lines to boost automation, efficiency, and flexible manufacturing.
The initial phase will target assembly and inspection using Intrinsic’s tools. Foxconn said these systems will open new automation workflows in electronics manufacturing.
Foxconn Chief Digital Officer Shih Che (史喆) said Intrinsic’s AI-integrated robotics will enable intelligent automation across the company’s global operations. He said the partnership will reinforce Foxconn’s smart-factory platform by linking data management and digital-twin technologies.
