TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s main stock index jumped on Thursday after Nvidia reported stronger-than-expected earnings, sparking heavy buying in chip and AI-related shares, per CNA.
The Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) rose 846.24 points, or 3.18%, to close at 27,426.36, its second-largest single-day point gain on record, bringing the market back above the 27,000 mark. TSMC climbed NT$60 (US$1.92) to NT$1,455 after briefly touching NT$1,460 during the session. Foxconn finished at NT$236.5, while Delta Electronics ended at NT$954.
Gains were strongest in AI hardware. AI server makers such as Wiwynn, Wistron, and Quanta advanced, and other suppliers linked to Nvidia — including optical component, printed circuit board, and glass fiber fabric companies — also moved higher, per Yahoo.
Thursday’s surge followed a steep drop the previous day, when the index fell 691.19 points to 26,756.12, its seventh-largest single-session decline this year, as investors pulled back ahead of Nvidia’s results and worried that AI shares might have run too far.
