TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan is calling on the government to establish a Ministry of Energy, reports said Thursday.
In the latest edition of its annual Position Papers, the chamber also urged Taiwan to complete its energy transition and reinvigorate offshore wind development, per CNA. It said Taiwan should adopt a clear framework to maximize the benefits of AI while managing its risks.
Other priorities for the coming year include strengthening social and telecom resilience and finding long-term solutions to talent shortages, the chamber said. The National Development Council will receive the full text of the Position Papers, which include 64 new items and 128 continuing concerns from last year. The chamber emphasized that improving resilience extends beyond defense to civil society, labor, health, and basic infrastructure.
In its response, the council said the government is already accelerating development of new forms of energy. It added that expanding the use of renewable energy will require close coordination with the private sector if official targets are to be achieved.
