TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Changhua County’s agricultural products fair will take place this Sunday at the Changhua Fruit and Vegetable Market, with 3,000 fruit gift bags, food tastings, music shows, and nearly 200 raffle prizes.
According to the Changhua County Government, the event will start at 8 a.m. with live performances and special one-day deals on local farm goods. At 9:30 a.m., 3,000 free fruit bags will be handed out, each filled with freshly picked bananas, citrus, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and other seasonal fruit grown by local farmers.
Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei (王惠美) said the county government has subsidized the Changhua Fruit and Vegetable Market to upgrade essential sales facilities. Wang said the Agriculture and Food Agency has provided a subsidy of NT$59.2 million (US$1.85 million), while the county government has contributed NT$9.88 million.
The magistrate also said the market will sell fruit at 20% off the wholesale price to help residents stock up on affordable produce during the fair. She explained that the discount is meant to encourage shoppers to support local growers and take home high-quality fruit.
Changhua County’s agriculture department said visitors can also check out food-tasting booths and enjoy a music program set up for families. The department said it hopes the giveaways will bring more people into the market and boost sales for farmers.
