TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck off Taiwan’s east coast Wednesday at 8:25 p.m., the Central Weather Administration said.
The quake’s epicenter was located 23.6 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall under the ocean at a focal depth of 6.3 km. No damage or casualties were immediately reported.
The intensity of the quake reached level 3 in Hualien County, and level 2 in parts of Hualien, Yilan, and Nantou. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
