TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China’s tip-off email address to report people who advocate for Taiwan independence has received over 10,000 tips, according to China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, per CNA.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, TAO Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said her office’s “Taiwan independence” mailbox had received the tip-offs, thus proving in her view that Taiwanese support “the great cause of national reunification.” The claims that the inbox received 10,000 emails or that they came from Taiwan are both unverifiable.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council has made clear the CCP has no jurisdiction over Taiwan and emphasized that efforts like the tip-off email address aim to divide the country, per the report.
Zhu also commented on two recent arrest warrants issued by the public security bureau of the coastal Chinese city Quanzhou for Taiwanese influencers Wen Ziyu (溫子渝) and Chen Baiyuan (陳柏源), better known by their online handles “Bajiong” and “Minnan Wolf.”
She described the action as a “just move in response to the calls from people on both sides of the strait to punish ‘Taiwan independence,’” adding that she hopes the public will provide her office more clues so it may better oppose “separatist conduct.”
The Mainland Affairs Council reminded the public that working with the CCP for personal gain or to weaken national security has potential criminal implications.
