TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan's “100x Payback” campaign has encouraged consumers to shop across the city, with invoice registrations topping NT$100 million (US$3.20 million) so far.
Taoyuan City Government said Wednesday the campaign was rolled out to keep spending strong after the NT$10,000 cash handout. People can shop at registered stores, upload invoices onto the campaign website, and get a chance to win prizes worth up to NT$1 million (US$32,000).
Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) pointed out that nearly 90% of spending has come from purchases under NT$1,000, mostly at restaurants, daily-goods shops, and weekend family outings. Chang added that most activity has centered on Taoyuan and Zhongli commercial districts.
Taoyuan's economic development department said invoice uploads climbed quickly in the first week, with more than 130,000 invoices logged by Tuesday and total spending passing NT$100 million. The department encouraged people to keep shopping in Taoyuan to enjoy more deals.
Commercial Times reported that Taoyuan City Government launched the 100x Payback campaign in response to the nationwide release of NT$10,000 cash handout. The campaign runs from Nov. 12 to Dec. 31.
Purchases of at least NT$100 (US$3.20) at any legally registered Taoyuan business count for the draw, covering commercial, company, and tax-registered shops. Each qualifying invoice gives one entry, with a maximum of 600 entries per person.
The draw includes a final grand prize, which is a NT$1 million jackpot. Taoyuan said it will also roll out extra offers with local shopping districts and tourism factories in December, giving visitors more chances to win.
