TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan's four women’s welfare service centers in Yonghua, Nanying, Yujing, and Zengwen have offered counseling and other support to nearly 10,000 people as of October.
Tainan's social affairs bureau said Wednesday the centers draw in women who want legal tips or sit-down talks with counselors. It said the city is trying to reach women at every stage of life so they can sort out problems early and move forward with confidence.
The bureau added the four centers also run group classes and workshops that help women pick up new skills. These include money management courses, job coaching, and support for older women who want to stay active.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the city’s women’s policies are not just welfare programs but a reflection of core values. Huang said the goal is to move from simple assistance to real empowerment so women can show their strength and grow with the city.
CNA reported that Tainan's home-care subsidy for pregnant women has supported 160 mothers since 2022. The subsidy pays up to NT$11,000 for travel, meal preparation, housework help, and nursing visits.
The Tainan government is building a Social Welfare Complex in Beimen District and designing a Maternal and Child Health Multifunctional Center in Yujing District. Officials say the new facilities will boost services for women and children and improve support in rural and remote communities, per CNA.
