TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Raytheon on Monday won a NT$21.5 billion (US$698.95 million) contract to supply air-defense equipment to Taiwan with delivery scheduled for 2031.
The Pentagon said the contract, funded through the US fiscal 2026 foreign military sales budget for Taiwan, will be managed by the US Army Contracting Command and completed by Feb. 28, 2031, per CNA. The award follows Washington’s approval last week of a NT$10.29 billion deal covering aircraft spare parts and maintenance items.
National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, or NASAM, has become a central element in Taiwan’s air-defense modernization. The defense ministry says the system’s automated detection and command-and-control functions, proven in the Russia–Ukraine war, will strengthen Taiwan’s defenses.
The ministry added that NASAMS will be integrated with two new radar systems to improve target detection and counter jamming. During wartime, the system can be deployed alongside medium- and long-range units to form a layered network.
Taiwan’s 2026 defense budget lists the NASAMS program as a public expenditure for the first time, allocating about NT$35.7 billion for radar systems, launch platforms, training, and pre-delivery preparations.
Meanwhile, last month Taiwan sent two representatives to oversee NASAM deliveries. The officers will supervise project contracts and manage logistics.
