TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy will open its Hsinbin Base in Kaohsiung to the public on Saturday.
The event includes tours of the Yushan-class amphibious transport dock and the Dawu rescue ship, weapons and equipment displays, performances by the naval academy’s drum and bugle corps, the Marine Corps honor guard and martial arts team, and the Zuoying Senior High School dance club, Military News Agency reported.
Visitors can see the well deck, medical bay, helicopter deck, Sea Sword II air-defense missile system, and bridge of the Yushan. In the dry section of the ship’s well deck, four AAV7 amphibious assault vehicles will be on display, Marine Corps Headquarters Chief of Staff Major General Lin Chia-hung (林家宏) said. The wet section will showcase four mechanized landing craft. On the Dawu, the public can view the main capstan, diving bell, decompression chamber, and bridge.
On the ground, the Marine Corps will exhibit the M109 assault boat, dual-mounted Stinger missiles, Javelin missiles, Cardinal II UAV, and other reconnaissance drones, Lin said. The Navy Fleet Command will display mobile missile trucks and radar vehicles, the Albatross UAV, land-based reconnaissance drones, and shipborne reconnaissance drones, he said.
Due to traffic and venue limitations, no parking or shuttle services will be provided.
Visitors must bring their Taiwan national ID card, driver’s license, or health insurance card. Children under 14 without ID must be accompanied by a family member. Foreign caregivers must present a passport or residence permit and accompany the person they are caring for.
Foreign and mainland (including Hong Kong and Macao) spouses who have not yet received an ID card must be accompanied by their Taiwanese spouse and present both the spouse’s ID and their residence permit.
