TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — DPP Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋) on Monday urged Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council to boost public awareness of the dangers posed by China.
In an interview with DPP Spokesperson Wu Cheng (吳崢), Shen cited the case of Lee Ming-che (李明哲), who was sentenced to prison by China solely for comments made on social media. Shen said China’s cognitive warfare against Taiwan has always begun with political figures and the military, according to a DPP press release.
Shen said that while he is unafraid, he hopes to spread that courage to others. He said raising confidence and bravery in more Taiwanese was his responsibility.
The legislator said that the more China tries to suppress Taiwan, the more Taiwanese must refuse to yield. For this reason, he decided at the last minute to attend last week’s German parliament hearing on disinformation in person.
As international support for Taiwan continues to grow, Shen pledged to keep traveling abroad to counter China’s threats.
Last month, China’s Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced that it had placed Shen under investigation for undermining national unity by establishing the Kuma Academy, which it called a “separatist organization.”
