TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo arrived in Taiwan on Monday for his first state visit at the invitation of the Taiwanese government.
This is Teo’s third time in Taiwan, according to the foreign ministry. His delegation includes traditional community leaders Niutao Island Chief Tuitonga Pelosa and Funafuti Island Chief Siose Teo.
During the trip, Teo will meet President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), and other senior officials to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation. He will also visit scenic attractions and learn more about Taiwan’s cultural heritage.
Under its integrated diplomacy plan, Taiwan is promoting the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project in Tuvalu. The project aims to boost economic resilience and national development between the two countries, the foreign ministry said. Taiwan will continue working with Tuvalu to create a more prosperous and harmonious future for their peoples while maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, it added.
In September, Tuvalu Parliament Speaker Iakoba Italeli visited Taiwan to reaffirm bilateral relations and cooperation. Italeli pledged that Tuvalu would continue to stand with Taiwan at international meetings just as Taiwan has always stood with Tuvalu.
