TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yeangder Group donated NT$3.5 million (US$112,000) to the University of Taipei on Friday to strengthen the nation’s reservoir of sports talent.
The company announced the sponsorship at a joint press conference with the university, saying the funds will support athlete training across several programs, per CNA.
Yeangder Chair Hsu Yu-jui (許育瑞) said the group has backed the university’s sports development for eight years. It has expanded from baseball and women’s volleyball to golf this year to help broaden athletic foundations.
Yeangder’s extensive tournament network gives young athletes a pathway to gain experience and pursue international recognition, he said.
Hsu added that his commitment to sports comes from the group’s founder, Hsu Chin-te (許金德), who served as the first chair of Taiwan’s volleyball association, per UDN. He noted parallels between athletic discipline and corporate strategy.
University of Taipei President Chiu Ying-hao (邱英浩) said the sponsored programs are among the school’s strongest, with baseball and golf teams winning national titles.
