TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung is frying up this weekend with its annual popcorn chicken festival, celebrating one of the nation’s most beloved street foods.
Often enjoyed as a late-night snack, popcorn chicken, or xian su ji, has become a symbol of Taiwan’s vibrant culinary culture. The Tourism Bureau notes that its appeal lies in versatile ingredients and endless creativity, making it a highlight of Kaohsiung’s nighttime economy, according to CNA and Ettoday.
From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Far Eastern Department Store Dream Plaza will host more than 60 stalls, featuring fried treats and popular drinks from across Taiwan.
The event combines food with fun and fitness. Guests can hop on stationary bikes and cycle for at least five minutes to enter a lucky draw.
Sustainability is highlighted with eco-friendly tableware available for rent, and those who bring reusable utensils can receive discount vouchers from participating vendors. Families can enjoy interactive games, trivia contests, and live performances.
The Tourism Bureau recommends taking the metro or light rail to avoid traffic.
