TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is considering a national AI computing center built with private funding, the National Development Council said Thursday, per CNA.
The project would fall under the “Trillion Investment National Development Plan,” a Cabinet effort to draw large sums of private capital into key infrastructure. Officials said well-known domestic companies have signaled interest in working with the Ministry of Digital Affairs to develop the hub.
To facilitate that, the Cabinet’s regulatory adjustment platform has been loosening rules for long-term investment. Of 51 proposals received so far, 30 regulatory changes have been completed, including measures to improve investment and financing terms for large projects.
One key move reclassifies AI computing centers and related services as strategic industries with the character of public infrastructure. That interpretation lets insurance firms invest more heavily while facing lower capital requirements.
The National Development Council said it will keep working with the digital ministry and other agencies to streamline procedures so the proposed center can move from early talks to a concrete investment plan.
