TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has an advantage in the North American transfer market over other Asia-Pacific airports, the Institute of Transportation said on Wednesday.
During a seminar, the IOT noted that in 2024, Taoyuan Airport offered direct connections to North American destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Ontario, Seattle, Chicago, Houston, New York, Vancouver, and Toronto, per CNA. The IOT said Taoyuan Airport had the largest number of transfer passengers on the San Francisco route.
Haneda Airport saw the most transfers on Los Angeles and Chicago routes, Incheon Airport led on the New York and Seattle routes, and Hong Kong Airport dominated on the Vancouver and Toronto routes.
Among all transfer passenger flows from Asia-Pacific airports to North America, San Francisco saw the highest volume with 2.2 million passengers, followed by Los Angeles (2.16 million), New York (1.51 million), Vancouver (1.03 million), Toronto (880,000), Chicago (850,000), Seattle (840,000), Houston (300,000), and Ontario (48,000).
In terms of transfer market share, Incheon Airport ranked first with 23.6%, followed by Taoyuan Airport with 22.1%, then Haneda, Hong Kong, Narita, and Pudong.
