TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A farm in Changhua County suspected of supplying pesticide-tainted eggs across Taiwan was fined NT$120,000 (US$3,860) on Tuesday and placed under strict restrictions and daily testing, per ETtoday.
The Food and Drug Administration ordered a transport ban on all eggs and chickens from Wenya Livestock Farm (文雅畜牧場) in Pitou Township after retesting confirmed the presence of fipronil and its metabolites in both egg and feather samples.
The Changhua County Department of Agriculture collected 45 egg samples on Monday, along with water, feed, soil, and feathers. One egg sample tested positive for 0.03 parts per million of fipronil metabolites, while a feather sample tested positive for 0.27 ppm of fipronil and 0.13 ppm of its metabolites.
Following the test results, the county government implemented four emergency measures. First, it enforced a movement control order, prohibiting the transport of any eggs or chickens from the farm, and assigned personnel to count and seal all eggs daily.

Second, due to continued pesticide contamination, the farm was fined NT$120,000 for violating the Animal Drug Control Act. Fipronil is a prohibited substance for use on laying hens.
Third, officials will continue daily sampling and testing of eggs and chickens until all results meet safety standards and the central government approves lifting the restrictions.
Fourth, the county government said it will continue to coordinate closely with central health and agricultural agencies to monitor the situation and prevent further contamination.
County officials urged poultry operators to comply strictly with regulations and avoid using animal drugs of unknown origin to ensure the safety and quality of Taiwan’s food supply.
