TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Fung-wong is expected to make landfall in Pingtung County by Wednesday evening before exiting via Taitung County as it weakens.
As of 6 a.m., the storm’s center was 160 km southwest of Eluanbi, moving northeast at 16 kph, per Liberty Times. Fung-wong has maximum sustained winds of 72 kph, with gusts of up to 100 kph and a storm radius of 150 km.

Fung-wong could weaken into a tropical depression as it crosses Taiwan. Heavy rain is expected in the east during the day, with intermittent showers in northern and northeastern regions.
Central and southern Taiwan, as well as Penghu, will see increasing showers from the storm’s outer bands. Rain will ease in the east but intensify in the north on Wednesday evening, while precipitation in the central and southern regions will depend on the storm’s strength.
From Thursday to Friday, a northeast monsoon will dominate. Heavy rain is likely in Taoyuan and areas to the north, while the central and southern regions are expected to turn mostly cloudy.
