TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yilan County’s Dongshan Township experienced continuous rainfall on Tuesday due to the outer circulation of Tropical Storm Fung-wong, causing flooding up to 60 cm in low-lying areas.
Flooding made it difficult to distinguish between farmland and roads in some areas. The Ankeng Creek embankment was also damaged and came close to collapsing, per CNA.
Soil erosion caused a large tree to fall across the creek, while parts of the nearby roadbed were washed away. Authorities said the damage has not yet affected traffic.

The Yilan County Water Resources Department said contractors were instructed to reinforce the embankments along Ankeng Creek with steel beams to prevent further damage. The county government also pre-positioned 48 large mobile pumps to support drainage operations in flood-prone areas.
According to the Central Weather Administration, between midnight and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, cumulative rainfall reached 39 cm in Dongshan Township and 66 cm in Nanao Township.
Flooding was also reported in Wujie and Luodong townships, where water depths reached 15 cm. The Yilan County Government announced road closures in affected areas.
Dongshan Township Chief Lin Jun-fu (林峻輔) said low-lying areas of Wuyuan Village flooded again due to the heavy rain. He urged the central government to help raise local roadbeds to prevent future flooding.
Lin added that the township office had already deployed pumps before the storm hit, but the rainfall exceeded forecasts. He called on relevant departments to assist in long-term flood prevention efforts.
A small landslide occurred in Suao Township’s Zhennanxing Village. The township office said residents are safe, and heavy machinery has been dispatched to clear debris from the roads.
