TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei City’s NT$4.43 billion (US$142.9 million) contract termination with Shin Kong Life will go before the Taipei City Council this week, clearing the way for Nvidia’s Taiwan headquarters at the Beitou Shilin Technology Park if approved.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) said the city hopes to secure council approval on Wednesday so the agreement can be signed on Friday, per CNA. If the session is delayed by Typhoon Fung-wong, the review will move to Nov. 19.
Shin Kong Life has scheduled an interim board meeting on Thursday in preparation for the signing.
City documents show Shin Kong Life submitted a detailed cost report on Nov. 5. A city-commissioned audit confirmed NT$4.43 billion in compensation, covering royalties, rent, taxes, and related fees, per The Storm Media.
The payout includes NT$3.45 billion in government-related payments, NT$614 million in consulting and engineering expenses, and NT$370 million in financing costs. Taipei officials said the settlement reflects verified costs under the previous development contract.
Lee said Nvidia’s vice president in charge of real estate will meet Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) later this month, with an advance team expected next week. The company aims to begin construction by June 2 next year during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s (黃仁勳) visit to Taiwan.
