TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Yilan branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency said Sunday the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area will close beginning 2 p.m. Monday as Typhoon Fung-Wong approaches.
According to the Central Weather Administration, a sea warning could be issued as early as Monday afternoon, followed by a possible land warning on Tuesday depending on the storm’s size and track. The typhoon is expected to strengthen over Luzon before weakening as it turns north toward Taiwan, CWA said.
The Yilan office said the closure is due to safety concerns at the 7-kilometer mark of the Yizhuan No. 1 Route and potential closures or disruptions on Highways 7, 7A, and Yilan Route 51 during heavy rain, per CNA. The move covers all eight trails inside the recreation area, 10 community-based nature trails, and the Jioujhihze hot spring.
The Luodong Forestry Culture Park will remain open for now but will close at the same time if the Yilan County Government orders work and class suspensions due to the typhoon.
As of 8 a.m. Sunday, Fung-Wong was located about 940 kilometers south-southeast of Eluanbi, according to CWA.
