TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Meteorologist Wu De-rong (吳德榮) predicted on Friday that Tropical Storm Fung-wong will shift toward Taiwan early next week, bringing heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As of 2 a.m., Friday, the storm was located 2,270 km southeast of Eluanbi, moving west-northwest at 25 kph, per CNA. Maximum sustained winds reached 108 kph, with gusts of up to 136 kph and a storm radius of 150 km.
Wu said that after crossing northern Luzon, Fung-wong is expected to shift north toward the waters southwest of Taiwan. While weakening after passing over the Philippines is expected, it could still bring strong winds and torrential rain as it nears Taiwan.
He added that on Monday, the storm’s outer bands will begin affecting northern and eastern Taiwan. On Tuesday and Wednesday, all regions of Taiwan should be on alert for strong winds and heavy rain.
Starting Thursday, Fung-wong is expected to weaken and move away, with weather improving sequentially from south to north.
