TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's Cabinet on Thursday approved an NT$11.4 billion (US$370 million) budget for a tourism project to boost domestic travel and develop two landmark routes connecting scenic spots across Taiwan.
Liberty Times reported that the project will run from 2026 to 2029 and include 10 locations from Alishan to Kenting. The government expects the plan to raise domestic travel by 10% and generate NT$1.2 trillion in tourism output.
Tourism Administration Deputy Director-General Huang Shih-fang (黃勢芳) said the project will start with a focus on Chiayi, Penghu, and South Bay. It will also coordinate efforts with the Alishan, Sun Moon Lake, East Coast, Yushan, and Kenting National Park offices to form a connected, world-class tourism network.
According to the Cabinet, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said the project blends Taiwan’s stories, diverse landscapes, and cultures into tourism. He encouraged ministries to promote eco-friendly travel, address over-commercialized old streets, and improve service quality for travelers.
CNA reported that the government may also offer incentives for company trips and promote “business tourism” for overseas Taiwanese to mix work with leisure. These programs could start in 2026 at the earliest.
