TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Suspected human remains were discovered Wednesday at a house rebuild site in Hualien’s Jian Township.
The two-story reinforced-concrete house previously on the site was built in 1974 and was recently demolished, leaving the lot vacant as work on a new structure began, the Liberty Times reported.
Around 10 a.m., a local resident alerted police that construction workers on Wuxi Street had unearthed what appeared to be human bones. The landowner was notified, per CNA.
Police said a femur and a jawbone were found scattered about 1.5 meters below ground, extending beyond the old foundation into natural soil. The bones were yellowed, suggesting they had been buried for some time.
The case has been classified as an investigation of unclaimed human remains. The Hualien District Prosecutors Office has been called in to examine the findings.
