TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The DPP on Wednesday endorsed Legislator Su Chiao-huei (蘇巧慧) for New Taipei mayor and is eyeing several other prominent figures for upcoming local elections.
Party insiders said Legislator Liu Chien-kuo (劉建國) is likely to run in Yunlin County, Deputy Health Minister Lin Ching-i (林靜儀) may be tapped for Nantou County, and Miaoli County Councilor Chen Pin-an (陳品安) has strong grassroots support, per CNA. Negotiations are continuing for Hsinchu, where Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang (鄭朝方) is seen as a leading contender.
The DPP’s first wave of nominations announced in late October included Chen Ying (陳瑩) in Taitung, Lin Kuo-chang (林國漳) in Yilan, Wang Mei-hui (王美惠) in Chiayi City, and Ho Hsin-chun (何欣純) in Taichung, per UDN.
DPP Spokesperson Chuang Jui-hsiung (莊瑞雄) said Taipei and Taoyuan remain top priorities and called for heavyweight candidates to boost the party’s momentum. He cited former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and former Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) as examples of senior figures who had taken on major electoral challenges.
Chuang also urged Cabinet officials to show leadership by joining key races, though no specific candidates were discussed for Taipei and Taoyuan. Party officials said evaluations for the Taipei mayoral nomination are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Wu I-nung (吳怡農), founder of the Forward Alliance think tank, has entered the race for the DPP’s Taipei nomination, joining Legislator Wang Shih-chien (王世堅) and former DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌).
